Men’s hockey: Larsson attending Rangers Development Camp
RMU men’s hockey incoming sophomore defenseman Rasmus Larsson has been selected to participate in the New York Rangers 2025 NHL Development Camp. This invitation marks a significant opportunity for Larsson to showcase his talents at the highest level and gain invaluable experience with a National Hockey League organization.
Following the conclusion of the 2025 NHL Draft, NHL teams began releasing their development camp rosters, which typically include a mix of drafted prospects, recently signed free agents, and undrafted players invited for evaluation. These week-long camps provide participants with an immersive experience, offering NHL-level coaching, rigorous on-ice drills, off-ice training, and comprehensive evaluations designed to further their development. For Larsson, it's a critical step in his professional hockey journey.
Larsson holds a unique distinction within the Robert Morris program as he is the first NHL Draft pick in program history to play for the Colonials. He was selected by the New York Rangers in the 2023 NHL Draft in Round 5, 152nd overall.
The Hässelby, Sweden native joins RMU after spending his freshman year at Northern Michigan University. During his time with the Wildcats, Larsson played in 29 games on the blue line, demonstrating his defensive capabilities and contributing three goals offensively. His experience in NCAA Division I hockey, combined with his NHL draft pedigree, makes him a highly anticipated addition to the Colonials' roster.
"We are incredibly excited for Rasmus to have this opportunity with the New York Rangers," said RMU head coach Derek Schooley. "Being invited to an NHL development camp is a testament to his talent and hard work. This experience will provide him with elite-level instruction and a firsthand look at what it takes to compete professionally. We know he will represent RMU exceptionally well, and we're thrilled to have a player of his caliber joining our program."
