Twins 12, Pirates 4: Burrows shelled as skid hits eight
Mike Burrows struggled with command and was hit hard for six runs over 1 1/3 innings, as the Pirates saw their season-worst losing streak stretch to eight games with a 12-4 loss to the Twins this afternoon at Target Field.
Burrows allowed five hits, including a three-run home run to KodyClemens and a one-out triple to ByronBuxton in a six-run second inning, and walked three. GenesisCabrera wasn't any more productive in relief, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk in 1 2/3 innings. AndrewHeaney got some work in out of the bullpen and surrendered three solo home runs, including one to Buxton, who had five hits and became the 12th player in Twins history to hit for the cycle.
“I think (Burrows') fastball command wasn’t there today," DonKelly said. "He struggled to find the zone. Fastball command, and I think the ball Clemens hit was just a curveball he caught out in front that wasn’t located, but it makes it tough when you’re not locating your fastball.”
Four Twins relievers -- Cole Sands, Travis Adams, AnthonyMisiewicz and Justin Topa -- combined to limit the Pirates to a six-hit output. The first 10 batters were retired before AndrewMcCutchen drew a fourth-inning walk and BryanReynolds produced the team's first hit with a one-out single. McCutchen scored the first run on a RoyceLewis error, Jack Suwinski hit a solo homer in the fifth, JoeyBart drove in a run with a single in the seventh and NickGonzales did the same in the eighth.
